Beneficiaries

On August 7, The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force announced that it donated a record-breaking $249,812 to The Miami Foundation’s GLBT Community Projects Fund. The donation represents two-thirds of the combined net proceeds from the 2013 Winter Party Festival and the 16th Annual Miami Recognition Dinner. The donation amount exceeds the previous record set last year by over $37,000. Over the years — through the Winter Party Festival and the Miami Recognition Dinner — the Task Force has contributed approximately $1.65 million to South Florida grassroots LGBT organizations.

A portion of the net proceeds from the Miami Recognition Dinner supports the Task Force’s mission to achieve LGBT equality. Recent examples of the Task Force’s important and unique work included the intensive training of more than 2,500 LGBT community leaders across the country (over the past year, the Task Force has provided training and technical assistance to LGBT leaders and organizations in more than 20 states). In addition, the Task Force released numerous policy reports including valuable data about the transgender community and hosted the 25th Annual National Conference on LGBT Equality: Creating Change, an intensive five-day conference of 3,500 diverse LGBT individuals and allies to train and educate the leaders and next generation of the LGBT community.

The Task Force donates the majority of the net proceeds from the Miami Recognition Dinner and Winter Party Festival to the South Florida LGBT community through a grant-making process administered by the GLBT Community Projects Fund of The Miami Foundation — Greater Miami’s permanent philanthropic endowment for enhancing the quality of life of all Miami-Dade County residents.
